Marrow drive for Sarasota 8-year-old

SARASOTA (FOX 13) - A Sarasota family is asking for your help.  They're looking for a bone marrow match for their son.

Benjamin Gilkey has acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  The 8-year-old has undergone intensive chemotherapy treatments and received more than 30 blood and platelet transfusions.

Despite a brief remission, he needs a bone marrow transplant.

On Sunday, his family will hold a bone marrow registry drive.  His parents say they're encouraged by how supportive the community has been, and are praying they'll find his match soon

The drive will be held Sunday from 11 to 4 at Evie's Tavern, 4725 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota.
