Retired UF police K9 'Gator' passes away

A retired K9 with the University of Florida Police Department has passed away.

"Gator" served with UFPD from June 2007 until his retirement in April 2016. After his retirement he remained with his handler, Lt. Matt Davis, and his family.

"Our fearless, handsome, stubborn, peanut butter loving pup passed away this morning. He was a true family member," wrote Davis' wife in a statement released by UFPD.  "Thank you Gator for your many years of tireless dedication to keeping our community, the University of Florida and our family safe. You have touched so many lives in so many ways! We love you so very much and will miss you handsome boy!!"

Gator was the second K9 ever for UFPD.
