Police in Sarasota are warning drivers to keep an eye on their bank statements after several credit card skimmers were found at a gas station.

According to police, an inspector with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Protection found seven skimmers Monday on year-old pumps at the Quik station, formerly known as the Dodge store, at 3580 Fruitville Road.  Investigators say they don’t know how long the skimmers were there, but the pump had not been inspected by the state since April.

The station's owner said he’s not gotten any reports of problems from customers, but police are asking customers to pay close attention to their accounts and report anything suspicious, no matter how small it may seem.

They also suggest that gas customers either use a credit (not debit) card for gas, or pay inside the shop.

Meanwhile, they are asking anyone with information to call the police department at 941-316-1199, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS or www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com.
