Drive-by shootings along Gulf Boulevard were related, police say

Two drive-by shootings along Gulf Boulevard over the weekend were related, police say, and police are trying to figure out who is behind them.

Treasure Island police responded to one shooting just before midnight Friday, Oct. 27. Police say an Uber driver was picking up a passenger when someone shot out the back passenger window.

The passenger and driver were not injured.

While police responded to the scene in Treasure Island, Pinellas County deputies were responding to another scene in St. Pete Beach that they believe was related. Deputies say a pedestrian was shot in the chest in a drive-by shooting and taken to Bayfront Hospital as a trauma alert. The man is expected to recover.

In both cases, witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white, four door sedan with dark tinted windows, possibly a white Chevy Impala. Video captured near the incident in Treasure Island shows a white sedan driving by at the time of the shooting.

Witnesses say there were up to four people inside and one person hanging out of the car with a gun.

No other description of the suspects was available.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Treasure Island Police Department at 727-547-4595.

Police say there has been no connection established between these shootings and the deadly shootings in Seminole Heights in Tampa.
