First lady Melania Trump's plane returns safely to Joint Base Andrews after 'mechanical issue'

The plane first lady Melania Trump was on safely returned to Joint Base Andrews Wednesday shortly after takeoff due to a "mechanical issue."

A FOX NEWS producer who was onboard the plane reported that about 10 minutes after takeoff there was a burning smell and that a thin haze of smoke could be seen. Secret Service agents we moved to the cockpit and press reporters were given wet towels to hold over their faces.

Within a few minutes the smoke and burning smell began to dissipate, according to the producer.

The plane safely landed at Joint Base Andrews at approximately 9:05 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The first lady’s plane was heading to Philadelphia for an event discussing opioid addiction.
