Witnesses looked on as an apparent road rage situation escalated to the shooting death of one person, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives were interviewing the "numerous witnesses" Friday night near the intersection of W Bloomingdale Avenue and S Kings Avenue.

It appears two drivers engaged in a road range incident around 6:30 p.m., and then came to a stop in traffic moments later. One driver, Kenneth M. Cuevas, 27, got out of his car to confront another driver and there was an exchange of words.

Cuevas was apparently shot by the driver he approached, detectives said. Cuevas was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives said the shooter pulled off the roadway and waited for law enforcement, and was being cooperative.

The intersection of Bloomingdale and Kings was shut down for some time while deputies conducted their investigation.
