'Miracle' no one was hurt in I-4 school bus crash

PLANT CITY (FOX 13) - The football team and its coaches at Seffner Christian Academy may have looked death in the face and survived.

Late Tuesday afternoon,  the Crusaders were on their way to an off-season scrimmage when the unexpected happened. Their bus was traveling east on Interstate 4 near Plant City in the inside lane. The truck next to them in the middle lane blew a tire.

Investigators say the driver of the truck lost control, and the truck collided with the Crusaders' bus. The impact was so forceful, it sent the bus over the guardrail. It ended up in the grassy median, stopping just short of the traffic going westbound on I-4.

In a letter to the Seffner Christian parents, the administrator, Roger Duncan II writes, "God had his hand of protection over our people. One of the police officers working the scene told our staff, 'It's a miracle the bus did not go through the median into the oncoming traffic.'"

According to investigators, some of the players and coaches were pretty banged up. As a matter of fact, one coach needed medical treatment.  But no one was seriously hurt.

Facebook posts indicate that's something that many parents and friends of the school consider an act of God.
