People prepare for Tropical Depression 9

NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) - With Tropical Depression 9 continuing to make its way towards Florida's west coast, Pasco County residents like Holiday's Krista Dollar are moving quickly to combat the potential flooding the storm will bring.

"I want to get everything taken care of that I can, so that this way everything's safe," she said.

Mike Or is doing the same thing.

"Our street, matter of fact. it rains for 2 days and the top of the street turns into Oreo cookies," Or said.

Pasco County has seen several recent cases of flooding including places like Elfers back in 2015. 

Pasco county officials say they're preparing for the potential impact of a Category 1 hurricane this week and want others to plan for that worst case scenario, too.

"We want people to be prepared and be aware," said the county's Director of Emergency Services, Kevin Gutherie.

Gutherie says one of his biggest concerns is wind.  He's asking residents to secure any loose debris outside, so it doesn't become a missile.  Falling trees will likely be another problem.

"I mean trees can come down on homes, down on cars, down on power lines. It's going to knock power out. We're preparing for that already," Gutherie said.
