'Pink Beer' to raise breast cancer awareness

A local brewery created a beer to raise awareness on preventing breast cancer.

The Crooked Thumb Brewery, located in Safety Harbor, canned the “Pink Beer” on Wednesday and will launch is on October 1. It’s a mixed berry Florida Weisse, for a good cause. Every time a four-pack is purchased, five dollars will go to the Mammography Voucher program at Morton Plant Mease, which is a local program to provide mammograms to women who unable to afford them.

They said a limited number of Pink Beer cans will be available in the tasting room, as well as their Drink Pink event on October 14. The event will be held between 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. where live music, food trucks, raffle, pink treats and pink hair will also be present. All the proceeds during the event will go to the voucher program.

The beer gets it color from over 400 pounds of blackberry, blueberry, strawberry and raspberry puree, the brewery said. No dyes or coloring are added.
