Police: Two critical after being hit by DUI driver
PINELLAS PARK (FOX 13) - A Pinellas County Public Schools music teacher and her boyfriend are in critical condition after police say a drunk driver crashed into them early Sunday.
It happened on the 4000 block of Park Boulevard just before 1 a.m.
According to police, 36-year-old driver Brice MacLeod ran a red light and plowed into a Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Camry, Caroline Sine, and her passenger, Sean Hankins, were both taken to Bayfront Hospital in critical condition.
Sine teaches music at John Sexton Elementary School, but has taught at other schools in Pinellas County, according to a spokeswoman. Hankins teaches music at Miles and Shaw elementary schools in Hillsborough County.
The band released a statement on Facebook Sunday, asking for prayers for Hankins and Sine.
Police said MacLeod showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for DUI with serious bodily injury. He refused a breath test at the scene. He's being held in the Pinellas County jail on $20,000 bond.
