Seven dead following crash involving Phoenix-bound Greyhound bus along New Mexico freeway

PHOENIX (AP/KSAZ) -- New Mexico State Police say one westbound lane of Interstate 40, where a fatal truck-bus crash killed at least four people, is now open.

According to reports from FOX affiliate KRQE, The crash happened just after noon on Thursday along I-40, between Gallup and Grants. According to a post made by McKinley County Office of Emergency Management, the crash happened along the highway's westbound lanes, near Mile Marker 47. The post was made on the office's unverified Facebook page.

Greyhound says the bus was heading from Albuquerque to Phoenix, and there were 47 passengers.

According to tweets made by New Mexico State Police on its unverified Twitter page, preliminary information indicates a semi-tractor-trailer was heading east on I-40 when it suffered a tire blowout, crossed into westbound traffic, and collided with the bus.

At least seven fatalities were confirmed by NMSP as of Thursday night, and according to the Associated Press, at least nine passengers were being treated at a hospital in Albuquerque.
