Sanford officer charged with domestic battery

A Sanford police officer who faced a judge Sunday morning is accused of punching and headbutting a woman who he was out drinking with in Daytona Beach.

Seminole County deputies arrested Lt. Joseph Santiago on domestic battery charges.  Santiago allegedly attacked the woman after he "didn't like something she said" at one of the bars they visited in Daytona Beach. The report goes on to say the pair then went to a home in Seminole County, where they got into an argument and Santiago allegedly punched the woman in the nose.  She then called 911.

A judge set bond for Santiago at $500, and he has bonded out as of Sunday afternoon.  He has also been ordered to have no contact with the victim, and to wear a GPS monitor.  Santiago is set to face a judge again at the end of the month.  He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
